Coaching Philosophy
Most everything you read or hear about youth coaching emphasizes that the players
must have fun. Agreed. But did you ever stop to wonder what "having fun" means
to a youth player? For us at PFC, it means 3 things:
 | Improving. There is nothing more fun than getting better at something
you like to do. Likewise, there is nothing more frustrating than not
getting better. So it is vital that a practice and playing environment
is created where each player is not afraid to make mistakes, is encouraged
to
make decisions,
and is given the tools needed to improve each aspect of his or her game. |
 | Competing.
It is fun to compete. It is a kick when the things you
work on in practice and on your own work against another team. It is
fun to win. But it is no drag to lose when you compete well. So expect
a lot of competition when you come to PFC. Expect to compete via small-sided
games
within your team, expect to compete against other PFC teams, expect to
compete with other PA West teams, and expect to compete against teams you
meet in
tournament play. |
 | Growing. There may be no more fun than when a game you love to play just
keeps getting better because you as a player keep learning more. For
a coach or a parent,
there is nothing more fun than watching your player or your kid become
more confident, more self-assured, more willing to take chances, eager to
make decisions and ready to embrace all the positive qualities the great
game has
to offer.
|
That is how we define having fun. To what level that fun will take
your sons or daughters is entirely up to them. But know that, as a PFC player,
they will get every opportunity to improve, compete, and grow.
